Why Kwanele Madoda exists
Kwanele Madoda responds to the continuing crisis of femicide and gender-based violence in South Africa. Women have spoken, organised and warned for years. Men must speak honestly to other men.
We are men speaking to men. We are not speaking for women. We are standing with women.
What the name means
“Kwanele” communicates “enough”. “Madoda” addresses men. The name draws a line: enough violence, enough silence, enough lives lost and enough looking away.
What we believe
- Women should not carry the fight against GBV alone.
- Men must speak honestly to other men.
- Accountability is not hatred of men.
- Supporting women and supporting healthy men are compatible.
- Violence is never justified.
- Boys deserve healthy male role models.
- Collaboration is stronger than duplication.
Our vision
We work towards a South Africa in which men actively contribute to safer, healthier and more respectful communities. The movement centres accountability, healthy relationships, fatherhood, mentorship and men’s wellbeing without ever using those concerns to excuse violence.
Independent and non-partisan
Kwanele Madoda is an independent South African civic movement. It is not affiliated with, controlled by or created for any political party. It may engage public institutions on matters relevant to its mission while remaining non-partisan.
